Holy Rosary Church KL

That's my car in front of the church
Don't worry, I did not park the car like this. All this was done in less than 3 minutes. A quick shot before leaving the church compound for home. This was taken on a Saturday morning around 11:00am. I went there to do a quick video shoot of Father Joachim. 30 seconds long, taken with my Samsung S6. ( As was this shot)

I think I've only been to this church once before for sunset mass a good 20 plus years ago. Which makes the last visit a very long time ago and me a rather old person if you count the years since.  You may well observe the taller buildings which have mushroomed around it. And as I waited for father to be ready, I took a walk in front of the church and attempted some shots. I realised the train which must run near can be heard loudly and regularly. Making any possible ideas of video-taping father outdoors with the church in the background a bad idea. We finally decided to have an indoor shot for better sound quality.

I believe the design of the church is Neo-gothic style. It was built in 1903. Some parts of the church was destroyed during the Japanese occupation and rebuilt. It bears some similarities to Westminster Abbey in London.

Mushroom pastry

Mary Berry would be proud of the baker who was responsible for this little number. I believe the correct word is puff pastry. Puff pastry is done with pastry and butter in between and many turns of the pastry to give it the many layers. This must be kept chilled and butter must be allowed to leak out of the pastry.

This was breakfast this morning after mass which ended just a little before 0930 this morning. Then it was a quick drive here for coffee ( I had long black ...wasnt strong enough for me ) and some pastries.

Komugi Bakery

I ate a macaron there when it first opened. It was dry and sweet. That was at the start of my macaron-obsession stage. ( If you want good macarons, Nathalie's Gourmet at Publika is it) A year later a friend commented on this wonderful bakery and how I should try it. When I found out this was it, I brushed it off.

What I should have done was give it another chance, which I eventually did 2 weekends back. Their pastry really is better than decent. And some of them pictured below are pretty.

These really look life-like
Their selection is different from Breadstory or Lavendar. I think it helped that I was in a exploratory mood. I chose a jumbo sausage bun and a piece of naan for tea. And they were both very nice.
Such a pretty shade of pastry
I will return to try some of their other pastries. Not too soon, its located in Midvalley Megamall.

A good deal

Granchio
If you are a pasta fan you should have it here. A friend introduced me to this place years back. The branch we ate in has since closed down. I wonder why, maybe the rent increased. It can't be because of the food as this place serves pretty good pasta and pizza.  I usually only eat Granchio here. Granchio means crab in Italian. It's minced crab meat in tomato sauce with a garlic infused smell coating every strand of pasta. How can you resist?
A seat with a view
The new branch I frequent is at Sunway Putra Mall. Previously known simply as The Mall. If you don't know this already, The Mall underwent a major overhaul after being bought over and apart from the infrastructure everything else has been upgraded. It's been give a facelift new floors, new escalators and new selection of shops.

And two weeks ago, we had a meal here and found a super deal which wasn't advertised. Buy one meal and get another free. So if you're in the mood for pasta ( some home made with a selection of different sauces ), pop in and tell me what you think.

Here's my review:
Price: bordering on the expensive end. Unless you catch the buy one get one free deal.
Service: Good
Taste: super

Celine trio

Tried and tested, That's what the forums tell me. After 2 years I too own a Celine trio. The downside is I'm so scared of staining it or leaving a pen mark on it. Mine is in multiple colours I've been searching for what's the correct term to describe it but I can't find what the net calls it. So I'm going to describe it. the middle pouch is black and the strap is black. the front of it with the very small word Celine is light blue and the other pouch is light brown in colour.

I need to consider getting a small purse. The current braun buffer fits snugly and getting it out to pay and then putting it back in takes time.  So here it what mine fits:

1. Samsung S6
2. Iphone 6plus
3. braun buffer purse ( which comes in acca kappa pouch to protect it)
4. Angelina ballerina harrods pouch where the access cards coins are kept
5. my small bunch of keys
6. the car keys

I hope the strap doesn't break.
No picker of the bag (yet) It'll feature once I find it on my phone.

A good bakery

I cannot believe this is near enough where I live and this is the first time I've been here. Sure I've seen it written on blogs before but never felt the pull. Last week was different, I felt this need to eat. Which wasn't good for the weight.

So after a huge loop ( cos we didnt listen to waze)  we arrived and there is a definitely 70s feeling to the place. As if time stood still in this little corner of the world. Parking was free ( yay ) and there was space.

The mushroom pastry was gorgeous. Puff Pastry and the reason I know is thanks to the many bake off programs and Mary Berry. When I bit into the pastry I found smell the butter and the crunch was crispy and it melted in the mouth.

See? What did I tell you, you cannot get buildings like these in KL anymore.

Vietnamese coffee

Vietnamese coffee and a cold drink
I wonder whether anyone else has the same experience. I've brought Vietnamese coffee back from Ho Chin Min twice....and its odd that it smells and taste bland in Malaysia but when I bought it it smelt divine.

So I wouldn't buy coffee as a gift any more. Something tells me either there's a swap done during purchasing or something about packaging and air travel knocks the smell out.

We had coffee here at Milano Coffee at Tropicana Mall. A first for me. It's a small place with about 4 tables but the service was with a smile and my coffee was strong and smelt good.

My first post after ages.

Hakka noodles with minced pork
After simply ages, I've decided to blog again. And what tip it off is getting a new MacBook Pro. (It's lovely I recommend this for anyone who needs a new laptop) plus I'm a bit bored this evening. After bawling my eyes out watching "Terms of endearment" followed by "beaches". And when I signed in, I realise blogger has finally allowed some posting of pictures in an easier manner.

For those who're read this blog before, you may remember I found it impossible to link my flick account pictures here. ( I still can't but I'm able instead to post pictures from my phone which is an improvement)

Due to the long period of absence I have verbal diarrhoea. There I said it.
So here is what this post is about ( I'll work backwards ) I've been in the noid for noodles for a while. The fat teochew noodles from Setapak ( there will be a separate post I promise ) felt like a boring menu for this Saturday's breakfast especially since I took the trouble to jog 3km outdoors followed by 1km on the treadmill and weights and jumping jacks and sit-ups....I thought let's have something different.

Toast and Roast can be found in Petaling Jaya. I found this by searching " nice places for breakfast in kl lah" and found this blog which led me to the Facebook page of this place and some very nice pictures. I was sold.

Wanton noodles with the rather obvious pork bits
As you can see, the Hakka noodles features first. And this is because I recommend this. Light enough to not feel guilty eating it. And the mince pork is salty enough.  The wanton noodles I found a bit sweeter than needed.
Pork bits with some fat waiting to do some harm
As for the  pork bits that was divine. As good as the one at Taman Yulek Cheras. Hmm I wonder whether they have the same supplier.
Here is where we had breakfast
And here is the shop front. I admit, a had a wave of disappointment when we drove up. The reviews said the place needed 30 minutes waiting before being served. It was rather empty when we got there. Maybe today being Chap Goh Mei...everyone decided to save the pork quota for dinner.
Fried dumplings
Oh yes, the fried dumplings were also very nice. I teamed the meal with dark hot Chinese tea to wash away the oil. ( I know it doesn't work )

Here is the name of the restaurant:
Toast and Roast.

Paintings

I saw at least 2 paintings which I wanted to bring home with me. But my study looks like a hidden object game scene. So no, I cannot afford to clutter it up more with things. The alternative is moving to a bigger place. Again, too much work.

Cant link Flick pics onto blogspot

Sorry for the long silence. I've been disheartened. I can no longer link my flick pictures to this blog easily. Youtube tells me there is a way. But it must be a glitch because despite following instructions, there is no embedded code to copy and paste.

While I sort this problem out with more trials....allow me to introduce you to my new blog on wordpress started last night. On Food.  here is the link. Hungry Hungry Hippo

It's also on the sidebar.

Is it sept already?

You may wonder why the long silence. There is a problem with Flick, well my account at least. I cannot link any of my pictures to this blog despite changing the privacy settings. Without pictures, I am forced to write more. And I am lazy that way. We're in the month of Sept already. I have many things planned for the year end truthfully they should have been done earlier in the year. Ever heard of the word procrastination? Lovely news! Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is pregnant with her second child. If you haven't seen pictures of videos of Princess Estelle , her first born and future Queen of Sweden, please google. It is worth it. Estelle is adorable. And the videos posted on the net show her playful personality.

sorry I've been lazy:)

SPF50 from Holika Holika.( Bought in Seoul)
If you've ever had the chance to visit Seoul, you will find yourself in the company of a lot of people with good clear skin. Glowing in fact. And when you head to the shops, with the idea of buying clothes and T-shirts, you will find yourself gravitating to the many facial product shops ( and there are many) to buy something in the hope of becoming gorgeous. This is what happened to me. True story.

During our last trip to Seoul ( thankfully before the MERS scare) we stayed in a hotel just beside Myeong Dong shopping area. ( Swoon so exciting I found myself energized for long walks just to look at things and ooh and aah over what they had in store) Anyway this long introduction leads to wearing SPF50 ( ladies are you reading this?) to remain freckle and pigmentation-free. Very important that. And if you already have one or two possible marks, save up for laser therapy which is the effective method of getting rid of it. Laser is costly so I recommend SPF50 as prevention. Cheaper in the long run.

Pictured above is a gem I found in seoul. Water-proof SPF50 from this Korean brand called Holika Holika ( So good you have to say it twice....I'm kidding)

myeong dong catheral
And I had the opportunity to attend sunset mass at Myeongdong Cathedral which is the birthplace of Roman Catholicism in Seoul. The cathedral is located at the end of one of the shopping streets and is up a hill. ( Picture was taken from the level of the road) The women is Korean are still pious. Quite a number of them wore veils upon entering the cathedral. Young and old. No age limit to veils. What was also impressive was the lovely singing. Voices like angels ( imagine Korean angels in Heaven) Due to the limited time in Seoul, I had to attend the sunset mass ( in Korean) on Saturday. Was flying out on Sunday back to Malaysia.
