KUaci isn't for the faint hearted

It's still UNtouched. And today is the 5th day of CNY. I'm thinking people value their teeth more these days. Used to enjoy eating kuaci.

I had to look it up, of course. It's melon seeds, yes? I found several different versions. Seems like it's getting a bad rap from toxic food-coloring.

gnightgirl: I have moved on from kuaci to sunflower seeds. It keeps me from falling asleep when burning the midnight oil. Better than a coffee-fix. Honest!( Yes kuaci is melon seeds..)

Kuaci these days aren't like what it used to be. I rememeber they were actually EASY to bite open...or is it because my teeth are getting porous? Sigh.... Another tradition to discard!

Jimbo: sunflower seeds! sunflower seeds! gentler on the enamel

You eat the salted ones? They curl your lips after awhile, don't they?

I have discovered pumpkin seeds (for my cholesterol problem). MUCH nicer.

Goodnight girl - I don't think that food colouring is toxic. It looks like cochineal to me, which is made from squashed beetles. You'd think that would be toxic, but apparently it isn't.
