Today is the first day of Lent which is a season of fasting and prayer. We will receive ashes on our forehead in church, a reminder that our life on earth is temporary. Ashes are also a symbol of penance and it is also a reminder that God is merciful. As we journey through the 40 days, we are reminded. to seek God's mercy as we examine our lives snd repent for our sins.
