Wires are nasty things..

The desktop has been acting up for at least 3 months. And I have been procrastinating my trip to the pc doctor ( ie the man in sg wang plaza who sold me the pc ) forever. But today, I was determined to get things sorted. The last time I unplugged the wires, I had a jolly hour trying different permutations before the monitor worked. So today ( smug look ) I got smart and took pictures step by step.
For the record, the monitor didn't come on until a good half an hour later. ( And with a bit of swearing under my breath to get things going ). I think this desktop wants me to be miserable. Why else would it act up every few months?

tagged AGAIN

The Aunt tagged me.......

1. Each player must post these rules first.2. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.3. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.4. At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.Eight random facts and habits of self.

( Pssst I'm gonna do all the above except tag 8 people...cos I dun have 8 friends on the net who blog....I only have 4.)

Fact one: I am exactly 5 feet tall in my stockinged feet, which makes calculating my BMI tedious...cos I always have to lose a few kilos secretly before I'm happy with the result.

Habit: I cut my toe nails rarely. I much prefer someone else doing it for me. Pedicures were made for people like me....who can't quite bend down to get the job down. Last week, my attempt at toenail cutting nearly blinded me. One nail flew directly into my left eye and I daren't wink lest I cause a cornea abrasion. ( I still have good sight and am not legally blind as yet )

Fact two: I come from a small town called "Raub" which is / WAS a gold mining town. The term raub means to scoop with your hand. Presumably them miners did a lot of scooping back in the good old days. Today...not much of the gold is left. And for the record my dad isn't a gold miner so we pretty much still have to work for a decent living. Pity!!

Habit: I buy HELLO magazine every week without fail. Probably stems from the days where Hello was much cheaper. With the rate the ringgit is dropping..I might just have to give up this habit soon. OUCH!

Fact three: I hate snakes. Absolutely hate them in all forms. Magazines with pictures depicting snakes would have to be stapled at the very first opportunity to avoid accidentally turning the page and getting into a flap. Toy snakes should be banned.

Habit: I like digging my ears. One of the surgeons once told us..never to put anything bigger than your elbow into your ear. I didn't quite care much for his lectures. Anyway, it can't have brought much harm cos I have perfect hearing.

Fact four: I like taking pictures and my camera and i are seldom parted. When I was younger I used to hate posing for pictures for my dad. He used to snap pictures at every opportunity. And to my horror I have become exactly like him. The apple doesn't fall very far from the tree. the slight ( but important ) difference between us is, my dad is obsessed with different lenses and gagdets. I have neither the inclination nor the monetary reserve to go down that path.

Habit : I wear my watch all the time. No really!! I mean 24 hours of the day. My friends find it weird. So it'll be real nice if someone out there reading this....leaves a comment just so I know I'm normal.

I haven't eight friends to tag. SO I'll just tag Jimbo ( as punishment for putting a picture of a snake on his blog...AAAArgh!!!)

Where I spent Saturday morning

I've found the cure for Monday blues. Read it somewhere in an older issue of New Idea ( aussie mag ) a small columm for useful tips and cures. One of the main reasons why we feel sluggish on Mondays is our rythnm is all wrong. We tire ourselves out Friday and sleep later than usual, and as a result we wake a good hour later than usual. And we do things which are so very different from the usual weekday routine.( who can blame us ). And on Sunday...when the body is just about to drop down a gear or two, we're rudely awaken to the fast paced routine of Monday.

My way around this...is to wake up the same time regardless. On Saturday I peeled eyes opened at the ungodly hour of 6:45am. And on sunday I peeled them eyes opened at 7:00am. And on Monday morning...I wasn't half as crabby as I was last week. Problem solved.

Our department held its family day at the Desa Waterpark last Saturday. It rained heavily the night before which meant sunny skies the next morning. Not much shade so most of us were huddled under a few canopies having breakfast before going into the sun. I'm now a full two shades darker than what I was Friday. Directly after the event, I was as red as a lobster and I looked pretty much like an overiped tomato. ( round facies helps make this metaphor accurate ). I felt like I was sitting two inches from a fireplace. Drank copiously with no toilet visits at all. Which goes to show just how dehydrated the poor body was.

If you are looking for a decent place to bring the family for a bit of watery fun, Desa Waterpark may be the answer. The wave pool was tiring. It's pretty hard to get into a bouncy object and enjoy the wave. First you need pretty good upper arm strength to heave yourself out of the water until you're half out of the water...and the next thing to do is..manouevre self into a safe position to avoid being tipped back into the water. Whereby, the entire tedious process is repeated.

Green ROse,

I've been bitten by the KOREAN drama serial fad. What started as a saturday morning lie-in two weeks back...has grown into an obsession with finishing the series ASAP. What did I do? Well, the obvious solution was to head out and buy the complete series. I did that last week and finished all 23 episodes in 4 days.

Green rose is currently aired on the Malaysian TV channel. ( I forget which one ). It is a tale of revenge ( NICE ) and a bit of romance. You get to see parts of Korea as well as China. The first episode was sugary sweet and slightly nauseating with the usual boy meets girl...they fall in love..and smiles all around. But things start hotting up when a murder occurs and the boy is framed for it.

The uphill battle

Okay, so violin playing isn't as easy as I thought it would be. Yes yes, others have said it looked difficult. But I nursed a secret wish I would find it easy and be playing in the MPO by say next year. Not so apparently. The notes are still sloppy and as the lessons progress, I now find the right arm ( previously well behaved ) refusing to follow orders. I refuse to be beaten by a piece of stick with horsehair stuck on both ends. Practise, practise...makes perfect.

Book 2 seems slow-going.

Queen of suspence

Just when I thought I'd exhausted all decent authors, I find myself pleasantly surprised. A short trip to the local bookstore..turned into a fruitful visit. Out of sheer boredom, I decided to scan each and every shelf carefully. The first 10 minutes left me with a creaky neck. Have you ever noticed reading titles requires tilting your head to the right? Well, it does. And after a bit the neck hurt quite a bit. Some people firmly believe bookstores are also libraries. And during this such visit of mine, there were just two of such individuals planted firmly along two of the shelves. Due to the logistics, I ended up starring at Georgette Heyer's books.
And THIS is how I found she writes ( contrary to popular belief) detective novels as well as historical romance. Envious Casca was highly enjoyable. I've just bought a second " Detection Unlimited". Srumptious reading ahead for me this weekend.

Birkies

They're buck-ugly there's no question. But with the appropriate toe-colour and attire...you can almost forgive the lack of aesthetic value and concentrate on ...how comfortable your arch feels being supported....how walking feels good without you realising it.

Singapore's skyline

In addition to the a short trip to PD, I also spent three days in Singapore. ( Not in the same setting lest you think I do zero work in between ). The sequence of the pictures and anecdotes on blog...are hardly in chronologically order.

There is a stark difference between Singapore and Malaysia. A difference you realised just as you cross the causeway. This time around, I flew to Singapore, so the change wasn't half as drastic. I went for a talk...and managed to squeeze some obligatory ( but enjoyable ) meeting-the-family session. And as my obsession with books still play a major role in daily life, I walked ( in the rain mind!!) from Raffles City ( where the conference was ) to Brash Basah Shopping Complex, where they promised many second-hand bookstores to browse. I came home with 4 books. Two of which were Joanna Trollope's. A fruitful trip indeed. ( The conference wasn't too bad either )

Kayn's Resort

I've been meaning to post some pictures taken in Port Dickson for the last week or so. Finally got around to locating the camera ( it was found on the kitchen top ), extracting the SD card out of it, popping it into the laptop and....blogging.

The entry to the resort was really off-putting. We drove through dirt road and to the right of us, a row of deserted double story houses. There were potholes scattered cheerfully to the left and right of us, which made us bum up and down as well as side to side. By the time we got to the resort, I was bruised on the bum and feeling mighty thirsty. The temperature must have bee at least 39 degrees. There were no clouds in the sky and the sun came right down and burnt my skin. we got to our rooms. ( huge disappointment) The furniture was shoddy and there was a great big black industrial plaster right across one of the windows.
But as the sun set....I realised just why this resort has survived this far. The view it offers is gorgeous....and the beach spanking clean. A smallish resort giving it an air of familliarity. The wind refused to cooperate but despite the air being rather stagnant...the beach walk was worth all the mishaps earlier.
The picture above was taken as the sun was setting......lovely isn't it?

Thanks, Mum

...for the talks
that made a difference,
for the hugs that always
made things better...
for the smiles that
made the worries disappear.
Thanks for being you.

HAPPY MOTHER"S DAY
